Run by husband and wife team Iain and Val, the bakery was originally inspired by Iain, who entered their shortbread into a local contest.

The reception to Iain’s baked goods was so warm that he began making more, soon realising he might just have the recipe for a new business.

Iain’s path wasn’t straightforward. An IT manager before the pandemic, he has also overcome a stroke in recent years. But determined not to compromise the process, he still insists on making each batch by hand, using the strict family recipe handed down from his mother and grandfather – a talented baker in the North East.

Alongside Iain’s signature shortbread, Val adds her own touch of creativity with cakes and birthday cakes, making Whyte’s a go to for both everyday indulgence and special occasions.
